Libby Hortop
Libby Hortop bought an autoharp off Kijiji one day, seeking a portable acoustic instrument. Prior to this, she had studied music at McGill, and spent many a night lugging her heavy electric piano to gigs. Under the name Elizabeth Bruce she released two albums of original music: As We Sadden Each Other to Sleep and The Silent I Know.
When she teamed up with seasoned 12-string guitarist and singer Cal Tranner, the folk duo Libby & Cal was born. Their jangly strings and smooth vocal harmonies combine to create a unique but accessible sound. They released an album entitled “Our Lady of Perpetual Hammer” in 2021, and will release their second album, “If You’ve Given Up on Love, The. Let’s Call it Something Else,” in October 2022.
