Grandma Bates (Jean Caie) emigrated from Scotland when she was a young girl and played piano in Toronto for silent movies. She later taught music in the farm house that Dave grew up in. Music was always filled Dave’s head whether on the tractor scuffling corn or on playful hikes back the farm lane.
The love and passion for folk music has been a big part of life’s journey for many years. His two daughters are full time professional musicians. Dave is digging deeper into this interest focussing on his own amateur guitar playing and song writing as well as contributing other aspects of folk music community including volunteering, organizing events and promoting acoustic music.
