Stony Plain Records

Stony Plain is a record company based in Edmonton, Alberta, specializing in roots music. Established in 1976, the label has released over 300 albums of blues, classic R&B, folk, country, bluegrass, rock and roll. The common element in all of these forms of music is that the musicians, regardless of current fad or fashion, put their hearts and souls into the music they make. The early years of Stony Plain Records, were not without incident. There were a couple of occasions when the label nearly sank, but lucky breaks kept it alive. It wasn’t until the mid-‘80s, however, that the company found itself on firm ground, thanks to the amazing success of the western Canadian legend, Ian Tyson’s classic album, Cowboyogragphy, which became Stony Plain’s first platinum album in Canada. Since then Holger Petersen and Stony Plain Records have helped to springboard careers of such artists as Corb Lund and Tim Hus and other artists such as Ian Tyson, Amos Garrett, Big Dave McLean and Harry Manx have been the corner stones of Stony Plain’s offerings. Today Stony Plain’s music is distributed throughout Canada, United States, Europe, Australia, New Zealand and Japan.
